Death and Survivor Benefits
AMVETS , FAYETTE COUNTY, STATE AND VA DEATH AND SURVIVOR BENEFITS


(A) AMVETS Post 103 offers a $300.00 Death Benefit for all regular members in good standing, beginning 24 months after being accepted for membership. Requests for the benefit must be made within 12 months of the date of death and accompanied by copies of death certificate, military discharge or DD214 and requestor's name, mailing address and relationship to the deceased veteran.

(B) AMVETS State offers a $3000.00 Accidental Death Benefit for all members in good standing

(C) The V.A. offers a $600.00 Burial Benefit for Disabled Veterans

(D) Fayette County offers a $100.00 Burial Benefit and a $75.00 headstone allowance for veterans with war time service. A copy of the veterans death certificate and military discharge is needed.

(E) Our Federal Government offers a free military headstone to veterans with war time service and Fayette County supplies a $50.00 benefit to set the stone.

(F) Fayette County pays $100.00 burial expense for a widows funeral expense when the widow survives a veteran who had war time service. The veterans discharge and death certificate along with the widows death certificate is needed.

(G)The State of Pennsylvania will pay $174.00 a month for 3 months to a widow of a veteran for emergency assistance. The widow must meet the income guidelines. Military discharge and death certificate is needed.

(H)A Widows Pension is a possibility if she is under the income guidelines from the Veterans Admin.

Benefits

For Burial in a National Cemetery
Burial benefits available include a gravesite in any of our 131 national cemeteries with available space, opening and closing of the grave, perpetual care, a Government headstone or marker , a burial flag, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate, at no cost to the family. Some Veterans may also be eligible for Burial Allowances. Cremated remains are buried or inurned in national cemeteries in the same manner and with the same honors as casketed remains.

For Burial in a Private Cemetery
Burial benefits available for Veterans buried in a private cemetery may include a Government headstone, marker or medallion, a burial flag, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate, at no cost to the family. Some Veterans may also be eligible for Burial Allowances. There are not any VA benefits available to spouses and dependents buried in a private cemetery..

Presidential Memorial Certificates
A Presidential Memorial Certificate (PMC) is an engraved paper certificate, signed by the current President, to honor the memory of honorably discharged deceased Veterans

Application
Eligible recipients, or someone acting on their behalf, may apply for a PMC in person at any VA regional office or by U.S. mail or toll-free fax. Requests cannot be sent via email. Please be sure to enclose a copy of the Veteran's discharge and death certificate to verify eligibility, as we cannot process any request without proof of honorable military service. Please submit copies only, as we will not return original documents.
